I would do this day if you actually want history. The Zona Colonial is the oldest European city in the Americas and a UNESCO site, and it is walkable once you arrive. The catch is the road: about two and a half to three hours each way. That is a long time in a van for a short wander.
What to see
The Zona Colonial is compact and walkable.
- Calle Las Damas.
- The cathedral, Catedral Primada de América.
- The Alcázar de Colón.
- Parque Colón.
Getting there
- Tour: pickup at your resort; long day.
- Private driver: more flexible.
- Bus: intercity buses run from Bávaro.
